The Beaux-Arts Group is a matrix organization in which a strong account management structure is overlaid on the traditional departmental organization. Functional responsibilities are divided between two groups as follows:

Department directors are responsible for assuring that the resources required to perform the project services are available and meet the firm's quality standards.

Account managers are responsible for assuring that the project services meet the client's requirements:  on time, complete and within budget.

Account managers are assigned project team members by the departmental directors.  Work performed by the project team is directed by the account manager; however, the directors remain responsible for the overall quality of work. The key ingredient of the matrix culture is teamwork.
